Norwegian Polar Institute to Continue to Host the WCRP Climate and Cryosphere Project Office

The Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) will continue to support the World Climate Research Programme’s (WCRP) Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) project office for another 5 years, until year 2018. NPI has been the host institution for CliC since it was established in 2003, and NPI hosted also CliC’s predecessor project, the Arctic Climate System Study.  The agreement signed by NPI Director, Jan-Gunnar Winther, and WCRP Director, Ghassem Asrar, in February 2013 confirmed the scientific goal of improving our understanding of the changing cryosphere, and its climate implications that WCRP and CliC have been supporting through international coordination research, modeling and education.

CliC is grateful to NPI and WCRP for their sustained support over the years, and the new directorate staff and the international cryospheric research community look forward to a continued productive collaboration with NPI.
