Background
Impacts of Changes in the Mountain Cryosphere (IC-MontC) was approved for an initial 5-year period by the CliC Scientific Steering Group in August 2024. This approval was made following recommendations from a 2023 workshop in Vienna that brought together a number of international leaders working on the mountain cryosphere.
Upcoming Activities
As a first step towards addressing the scientific concerns of loss of the mountain cryosphere, IC-MontC and the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) will hold a joint workshop during the International Mountain Conference (IMC) 2025 on high-resolution climate modelling in areas of complex mountain topography, where seasonal snow and ice commonly cover the land surface. We invite researchers engaged in the application and development of high-resolution (kilometer-scale) climate models over complex mountainous terrain to participate.
