Call for New Members: ESMO Working Group on Observations for Researching Climate (WGORC)
A new Working Group has been established under ESMO. Join the working group to strengthening communication and collaboration between the climate modeling and observational research communities.
CliC considers it of great scientific importance to have strong representation of cryospheric observations in this new ESMO working group and encourage our community to consider joining.
Deadline for applications:
31 March 2025 at 23:59 CEST
ESMO are pleased to announce the launch of the open call for new members of the Working Group on Observations for Researching Climate (WGORC), a newly established working group dedicated to bridging the gap between climate modeling and observational data. WGORC will play a key role in:
- Advancing model validation efforts
- Identifying observational gaps
- Recommending best practices for data processing, sharing, and application in Earth system models
ESMO are seeking experts in climate science with a focus on observational data and its integration into modeling efforts. Ideal candidates will have:
- A strong understanding of Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and their role in climate monitoring
- Familiarity with obs4MIPs, CMIP7, and other international initiatives
- Experience in data policy, FAIR data principles, or data processing techniques such as homogenization, bias correction, and uncertainty quantification
