The main objectives of the CliC SSG-IX will be to review the progress of CliC initiatives and themes; make sure that CliC contributes tangibly to the WCRP/IASC/SCAR objectives and key deliverables specified in the WCRP Implementation Plan 2010-2015; discuss the way forward for CliC and its Sponsors in the longer-term perspective; find people, approaches and collaborations required to achieve the agreed targets; and facilitate CliC participation in addressing the newly established WCRP Grand Challenges. A detailed draft of SSG-IX agenda will be available for your consideration and feedback shortly. The results of our deliberations at SSG-IX will be presented to the 34rd Session of the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee (Brasilia, Brazil, 27-31 May 2013). A half-day of the CliC SSG-IX meeting, most likely on Tuesday 5 February 2013, will be devoted to a meeting with the cryospheric research community of the Alfred Wegener Institute.
The CliC SSG meeting will start at 09:00 on Monday 4 February 2013 and conclude around 13:00 on Thursday 7 February 2013. Please note that key finalizing discussions will be held in the morning of 7 February 2013. Attendance is by invitation only and should be confirmed by 1 December 2012.
Our host will be Dr Volker Rachold, Executive Secretary of the International Arctic Science Committee, a co-sponsor of CliC. Dr Rachold has arranged for our meeting to be held at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Potsdam, Germany and organized a group booking at the Hotel Mercure, within walking distance to AWI.
