Climate and Cryosphere is launching an open call for nominations to its Scientific Steering Group (SSG).

The SSG is the governing body of CliC and has the overall responsibility for planning, implementing and monitoring its activities. The SSG helps shape the international research agenda and functions as an integrator of activities to avoid duplication of efforts and liaise with partner organizations.

For the current call, CliC is specifically, though not exclusively, seeking scientific expertise in permafrost and sea ice in order to complement the existing scientific disciplines represented on the committee. CliC is open to all nationalities, and particularly welcome applications from those whose countries are not currently represented in our leadership. CliC also encourages indigenous and local scientists with experience living in communities directly impacted by cryospheric change to apply.

SSG membership is initially for four years with the possibility of two extensions for two years each. The terms of reference are as follows:

  • Provide scientific guidance and oversight to CliC community and its activities
  • Oversee specific CliC existing activities and launch new ones
  • Liaise with other activities within WCRP and with the international cryospheric research community at large, partners, agencies and organizations.
  • Engage with Early Career Researchers (ECR) networks (e.g., APECS, YESS, HYS, etc.)
  • Represent the CliC community in academic meetings and events
  • Meet once a year

Deadline: September 30, 2024
