Land ice and 21st century sea level rise

Two fresh papers from the ISMIP6 and GlacierMIP community explore projected sea level rise from land ice changes under CMIP5 and CMIP6 scenarios.

The possible future sea level change due to Antarctica is similar for CMIP5 and CMIP6, but the warmer atmosphere in CMIP6 models leads to higher sea-level contributions from Greenland by the end of the century. Read the full story in Geophysical Research Letters here.

Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees celcius would halve the land ice contribution to twenty-first-century sea level rise. Read the full Nature paper here.

Congratulations to Anthony J. Payne, Sophie Nowicki, Ben Marzeion, Regine Hock, Heiko Goelzer, and the rest of the ISMIP6 and GlacierMIP community!
