Call for Suggestions for CliC Involvement in the Year of Polar Prediction

1-yopp-impThe Implementation Plan for the Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP) has been officially released. It is available at http://www.polarprediction.net/documents.html.

YOPP is a key activity of the WMO/WWRP Polar Prediction Project (PPP) and aims to enable a significant improvement in environmental prediction capabilities for the polar regions and beyond, by coordinating a period of intensive observing, modelling, prediction, verification, user-engagement and education activities.

The CliC and YOPP leadership recently had a call to discuss ways that CliC could add value to the YOPP plan, particularly in longer-term climate research and in regards to standardizing methods used to collect observational data. The YOPP leadership welcomed our involvement and ideas, and we are now asking the CliC Community for input on how we could become engaged in this important project. A YOPP Summit is being planned for this summer, and the CliC Director, Jenny Baeseman, is part of the steering committee so this is a great opportunity for us to contribute to the YOPP implementation.

If you have ideas or suggestions, please contact Greg Flato, Gerhard Krinner, and Jenny Baeseman.
