This activity fills a need for international coordination in the evaluation and testing of large-scale ice sheet models and the development of consistently-applied test cases and diagnostics. In addition, an intercomparison effort connected to CMIP6 will be undertaken to evaluate the simulation of ice sheets in those ESMs that include an interactive ice sheet component, and to evaluate the surface energy and mass balance terms over ice sheet areas in those ESMs that do not explicitly include ice sheet dynamics.
