Local Information

The 10th Session of the CliC Scientific Steering Group (SSG) will be held at the WMO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Below is some local information to help make your stay more enjoyable.

Getting to Geneva

By Train - SSB

Remember to pick up a free ticket for public transport from the machine in the baggage collection area at the Arrival level. This Unireso ticket, offered by Genève Aéroport, allows you to use public transport in the canton of Geneva free for a period of 80 minutes.

To get to downtown Geneva from the airport you can either take the train or the city bus. The train serves the airport from/to the centre of Geneva in just 6 minutes, with trains every 12 minutes during peak hours. All trains stop at Genève-Cornavin station (city centre). Bus 28 can be taken from outside the Terminal Building (First floor). The stop is situated to the left as you come out of the terminal. The bus goes all the way to Jardin Botanique, which faces the WMO building (last stop).

Taxis in Geneva can be ordered by phone, flagged down in the street or found at the 60 or so taxi ranks, in town, at the airport and at the stations. Fares between the airport and city range from CHF 30.00 to CHF 35.00 and depend on how heavy the traffic is, the time, and the number of passengers. Currently, the fare within Geneva, including the airport, is the amount shown on the meter. The driver will ask for a little more for luggage.

Hotel Information

We have secured a block of rooms at the Hotel Mon Repos (book before 10 Jan), which is located in approximately 300 m from the WMO building. It is a bit pricier than other hotels, but it is close to the venue. For those wishing to save or have been offered support from WCRP/CliC, we encourage you to search on booking.com, venere.com, or http://www.geneve-tourisme.ch/en/accommodation/hotels/ and find a hotel in the region of the Geneva railways station Cornavin. The recommended hotels there are: Saint - Gervais, Moderne, Cristal, and Astoria. Others may be acceptable too. They all are supposed to offer a free transportation ticket. Travelling from Cornavin to WMO is easy (line 1) with a commute time of roughly 10 minutes by metro, 30 minutes walking. The prices now go up very quickly so an early booking is strongly recommended. Since the district is small, it will be possible for people to easily gather together even if they stay at different hotels.
